Estimonia: photo valuation for antiques, watches and jewellery (mobile app)

Estimonia is our own product. The iOS app values an antique, artwork, watch or piece of jewellery from photos: a price range, a confidence level, what you would keep after fees and who to sell to. It runs on the same API as the web scanner, and a first valuation needs no account.

The challenge

A first answer, from the camera

The app is for people clearing a house, sorting an inheritance, collecting, or deciding whether something is worth selling. They need a realistic first answer rather than a certified appraisal, and the object is right in front of them.

Nobody wants to sign up just to ask

A sign-up wall in front of the first valuation would lose most of them, so the app had to work anonymously while still letting people keep what they scanned.

Our approach

A native app on the shared API

The app is built with Expo, React Native and TypeScript. It talks to the same Laravel 12 API as the web scanner. The API gives out anonymous Sanctum tokens, so a first scan needs no account. Anonymous users can create an account later without losing their items. Valuations run through the same background AI pipeline as the web.

Camera photos and over-the-air updates

Photos are taken with the phone camera. A saved copy on the phone keeps the collection available offline. Fixes reach users over the air with EAS Update.

From a value to a decision

Version 1.1.0 rebuilt the app. Each valuation shows what you would keep after fees if you sell at auction, to a dealer or online. The Sell-it Plan covers where to sell, an asking price and the listing, and estate reports value a whole house. Version 1.2.0 added a Value Report of everything valued, optional notifications, and valuations you can share as a card with its own link.

What is running today

Live on the App Store

Estimonia is live on the App Store for iPhone, in the Reference category. Free users get 3 valuations a day. Estimonia Pro adds unlimited valuations, up to 6 photos per item, PDF valuation reports and a collection inventory.

Honest about what an estimate is

The app presents every estimate as AI-assisted guidance based on photos, not a certified appraisal, and sends insurance, legal and high-value cases to a qualified appraiser.
